Supporting the UBC community

With news continuing to emerge detailing the atrocities from the terrorist attacks on Israel this past weekend, I want to express heartfelt condolences to those in our community who are grieving incomprehensible loss and hoping for the safe return of their loved ones.

As this conflict deepens and innocent civilians are caught in the tragic repercussions in Israel, Gaza and elsewhere, the implications are distressing for those with families and friends affected. The university joins individuals, organizations and nations here in Canada and around the world in calling for dialogue towards a peaceful resolution.

Our core strength as a university is our commitment to making the world better through research, teaching and dialogue. Integral to that strength is our shared value for peaceful relations in our community, our compassion, and our care for one another.

I noted on Monday that there are supports for students, faculty and staff in distress, and I urge you to reach out for help if you need it. UBC cares about your well-being.
