Minister Clement visits UBC for a roundtable on innovation and commercialization

 

On August 19, Professor Stephen Toope, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, chaired a Roundtable on Innovation and Commercialization. The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, and Roundtable participants engaged in a one and a half hour discussion on how to initiate greater innovation and commercialization in Canada.

Meeting at the Walter C. Koerner Library, along with Professor Toope and Minister Clement were Angus Livingstone, Managing Director of UBC’s University-Industry Liaison Office, Brent Sauder, Director of UBC’s Strategic Initiatives, Greg Aasen, Chair of British Columbia Innovation Council, Eric Jordan, President of Premier’s Technology Council, Pascal Spothelfer, President and CEO of British Columbia Technology Industry Association, and Alan Winter, President and CEO of Genome British Columbia. Also joining the discussion were Adrian Sheppard, Director of Operations at Graphics, Animation and New Media NCE, Kathy Veldhoen, University of Victoria’s Vice President of Innovation and Development Corporation, Mike Volker, Simon Fraser University’s Director of Industry Liaison Office and Industry Canada officials Philip Fleming, Director – Policy, Analysis & Intelligence, and Doug Kinsey, Regional Executive Director.
